Sundays Nonsuch Park Awareness Day was our best one yet.
Lots of people came, to enjoy a walk in our beautiful parkland and have a chat with the exhibitors, all all whom have an association with Nonsuch Park
The awareness day is run by and for users of the park and includes a host of fun and free family activities
This year there will be five zones to visit:
Nature and wildlife Zone: The Nonsuch Voles will be on hand to share their volunteering experiences and latest projects, along with other nature conservation groups. There is also the opportunity to find out more about bees with the Surrey Beekeepers Association and buy local honey, beeswax candles and other bee produce products.
History Zone: As part of Heritage Open Weekend and to celebrate the park’s rich history which dates back to the Henry VIII, The Friends of Nonsuch will be offering guided tours of both Nonsuch Mansion House and the Service Wing Museum and Palace Gallery which houses a stunning replica model of now-vanished Nonsuch Palace (described as nonesuch finer, the origin of the park’s name). Guests will be free to explore the formal gardens while interacting with a Tudor characters who will bring history to life.
Dog Zone: Dog owners can get advice on responsible dog ownership and (here’s an incentive you don’t see every day) pick up some free dog waste bags!
Cycling Zone: Free bike check-ups will be on offer as well as advice on all things cycling.
Fitness Zone: The park plays host to a number of fitness activities and a variety of these will be available to sample on the day.

This fantastic photo of the the Teetotal Memorial at Redgate Lodge, on London Road, C1920 comes care of the Facebook site Cheam in Pictures. The give away is the bird on top of the memorial.
I can find nothing about history of history of this memorial. Can anyone enlighten me?
I do know the London Road lodge was demolished in 1955, and assume this was Redgate Lodge.
Visit Nonsuch Mansion House gardens this weekend and the air will be heady with the scent of lilac and wisteria. Nonsuch Gardens are famous for having of of Surreys largest Wisteria Trees
In 1860 Swete’s Handbook of Epsom describes a Wisteria120 feet (36.5 metres) in the formal gardens. Could it be the same plant?
Marshalls history of Cheam, tells us that “The first Lilac trees were brought to Nonsuch by Sir Walter Raleigh. The Horourable Mrs Colborne, the owner in 1928 keeps up the tradition, as every kind of Lilac that is known is at present growing in the gardens of Nonsuch Park.”
Nonsuch Mansion House will be open to the public on Sunday 8th May between 2pm and 4pm.
The house is a Grade 2* listed building, designed by Jeffrey Wyatt in 1806. Come and and have a wander round the beautiful rooms and find out more about this beautiful house and its history from the Friends of Nonsuch.
Two independent film makers created a documentary series focusing on park life in Nonsuch over the course of one year. They met up with organisations working within the park as well as exploring the deep history and wildlife that lives on in the park.
This is a lovely Web Site, showing Nonsuch Park off at its best.
The site can be viewed here
Have you seen the new grass maze, on the lawn at Nonsuch Mansion House yet?
It was put in this week by the Nonsuch Voles and Nonsuch Park Staff. They will continue to maintain it throughout the summer, for everyone to enjoy
