The Friends of Cheam Park and Sutton Council are planning on planting more trees in Cheam Park.
Please come and join us. We need all the help we can get!!
This will be on Saturday 26th November, between 10:00 and 1:00. We will meet at Cheam Park Cafe
We will be planting a mixture of mature trees and small saplings.
Cheam Park has been transformed since we started planting trees on it. The area has become a haven for wildlife and is just beautiful to visit. Planting close to the wildlife rich Ancient Woodland site of Nonsuch Woods, means we are extending the habitat for the Woodland wildlife.
We all know that in Winter time, there is a great deal of water run off, which comes off the Park and adds to the flooding. As the mature, the trees will absorb some of the water and airate the soil reducing the amount of run off.
And finally….The UK has only 13% woodland cover, compared with an EU average of 37%. It is good to know we are going our bit to improve that figure.
